Nuova stagione del Manis: seminari e attivitŕ all'insegna del dialogo interdisciplinare

Carissimi iscritti,

Dear members,

Welcome to Issue N.3 of the 2017 Newsletter, where we continue our description of the Center’s activities.

Manis Centre has completed the proposals of Spring 2017 with a series of seminars opened to the public and the researchers that allowed to deepen the scientific debate on the many issues related to the research work on Metaphor, Narrative and Scientific Education.

As we have told you in Newsletter 1, linguists, mathematicians, philosophers, scientists, teachers and researchers of various disciplines, have been able to exchange visions and approaches.

Manis Autumn Seminars resumed the debate, proposing a first seminar: a meeting between scientists and experts in the educational-scientific field of museums. The meeting, titled "Narrative and pedagogical play approaches in biology teaching and learning", was held on Wednesday, October 11, with the collaboration of the Civic Museums of Reggio Emilia, at the Department of Education and Human Sciences and opened a course of exchange of experiences related to scientific education and narrative.

The seminar, introduced by Tiziana Altiero, with an intervention titled "The fundamental themes of biology”, started with Roberto Guidetti's intervention (Department of Life Sciences), on the theme “The playful-narrative approach to the evolutionary phenomenon”: Prof. Guidetti, zoologist, has led the many present teachers of different levels of schools to bet in a playful way on evolution with disciplinary and epistemological clarity. The second contribution, by Silvia Chicchi, Francesco Campani, and Riccardo Campanini, presented the use of narration in order to describe the method of experimentation.

A taste of the narrative approach was given to the present from the entrance to the Seminar by Lazzaro Spallanzani and his sister in person in vintage clothes (personified by Francesco Campani and Licia Trolli), which dragged the audience in another time, with a first-person narrative rich in metaphors, anecdotes, and scientific reflections, directly derived from Spallanzani’s correspondence and publications. The narrative-dialogue has well expressed the didactic and educational potential of the museum approach, used in some projects for the primary school visitors.

At the end of the relations, contemporary workshops were held on the topics presented, in which the teachers could try and touch with hands, games, modelling examples and various teaching materials on the subjects.

Below you will find the latest news regarding other Seminars and Center’s projects.

We hope many of you will come!
